MORPHEUS 8
WHAT IS MORPHEUS 8
InMode Morpheus8 is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that pairs microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy.
This FDA-cleared device uses tiny needles to deliver RF energy to different depths of the skin. The needles and heat from the RF energy create micro injuries, which trigger your body’s natural healing response and promote the production of new collagen and elastin, to firm the skin and lessen wrinkles.
The treatment is most commonly used on the face and neck (especially to treat jowls and firm the jawline, under-eye area, and around the mouth), but it can be used just about anywhere on the body, including the abdomen, buttocks, chest, arms or knees.
Morpheus8 treatments can address a wide range of skin concerns. In experienced hands, it can:
-
improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
-
firm and tighten mildly sagging skin
-
smooth skin texture
-
reduce the appearance of large pores
-
treat hyperpigmentation and acne scarring
-
help fade stretch marks
-
reduce some fat just below the skin (though not significantly enough to create facial volume loss)
For optimal results, most people need a series of up to three treatment sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart.
WHO'S A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR MORPHEUS 8?
Morpheus8 can safely benefit all skin types and tones, addressing a broad range of skin concerns.
Given its stimulating effect on collagen production, the treatment excels at improving skin texture, firming and contouring mildly sagging skin, smoothing wrinkles, and minimizing other signs of aging. The dramatically improved skin quality is way beyond what is achieved with a facelift alone.”
Microneedling with radiofrequency energy is also particularly effective at improving the appearance of acne scars—though avoid it if you still have active acne, since the needles can spread breakout-causing bacteria.
The microneedling aspect of Morpheus8 helps resurface the top layer of skin, so people with sun damage and dark spots should see clearer, brighter, more evenly toned skin post-treatment.
Most notably, Morpheus8 is a safe option for people with olive or brown skin tones, who might otherwise be at risk of hypo- or hyperpigmentation from other resurfacing treatments (like lasers). Your provider can choose a needle type that’s safest for your skin tone, from microneedles that emanate heat along their full length to coated microneedles that emanate heat only from their very tips, to precisely target the deeper layers of the skin without damaging the skin’s surface.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING A TREATMENT?
Morpheus8 recovery is relatively easy, with just a few days of social downtime. After your treatment, you can expect one to three days of redness, itchiness, and swelling. That means you can schedule the procedure on a Friday and likely be restaurant-ready by Monday, depending on the intensity of the treatment and how quickly your body heals.
You can boost your results post-treatment with smart Morpheus8 skin care. “Stronger treatments with microneedling RF can leave channels in the skin for up to 72 hours, helping medical-grade skin-care products penetrate deeper into the skin,” says Dr. Emer.
It’s important to follow your provider’s instructions, but Dr. Emer offers these recommendations for Morpheus8 after care:
-
Use skin care products that contain growth factors, peptides, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and retinol, as well as exfoliating cleansers and enzymatic masks, to turn over scabbing or crusting as your skin heals (avoiding any products that irritate your skin until it’s had a few days of healing)
-
Avoid direct sun exposure for a few weeks and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 (ideally a physical sunscreen containing titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide) when you have to be out and about, to avoid post-procedure hyperpigmentation
